Geography in the Age of Global Transformation: Spatial Inequalities, Sustainability, and Territorial Development

Dear Authors,

The Institute of National Geography at the University of Skopje has the honor of announcing the Call for Abstracts and Scientific Papers for the International Scientific Conference GEO³ Conference 2025, to be held on 27 December 2025 as a hybrid event, with on-site participation at the University of Skopje and online participation via the Google Meet platform.

The aim of the conference is to affirm geography as an analytical and interpretative scientific discipline of fundamental importance for understanding contemporary global transformations, spatial inequalities, sustainable development, and territorial organization of societies. The conference represents a scientific platform for the exchange of theoretical, methodological, and empirical research in geography and related fields, with a clear spatial and analytical orientation.

Conference Thematic Areas

Submitted papers must be clearly positioned within one of the following GEO³ thematic frameworks:

GEO-DEV – Geography, Development, and Sustainability
Regional and local development, sustainable development pathways, demographic change, urban and rural transformation, environmental sustainability, resilience of territorial systems, climate change, and development policies.

GEO-TERR – Geography, Territorial Development, and Planning
Territorial governance, regional and spatial planning, infrastructure and accessibility, spatial organization of economic activities, cross-border cooperation, and institutional frameworks for territorial development.

GEO-SPACE – Geography, Spatial Inequalities, and Transformations
Spatial inequalities, center–periphery dynamics, regional disparities, urbanization and metropolitan dominance, social and economic polarization, as well as methodological and conceptual approaches to spatial analysis.

Future Challenges in Geographic Science
Emerging spatial challenges related to climate change, demographic transitions, digitalization of spatial data, and the role of geography in public policies and governance.

Author Guidelines

– Conference and paper language: English
– Abstract length: 300–400 words (including references)
– Abstracts must clearly state the research objective, methodology, and main results or expected contributions
– All abstracts will undergo double-blind peer review
– Acceptance of an abstract does not automatically imply acceptance of the final paper
– Detailed instructions for full paper preparation will be provided for accepted abstracts
– Selected papers will be proposed for publication in the conference proceedings or in a thematic issue of a scientific journal, subject to an additional review process

Important Dates

– Abstract submission deadline: 15 September 2025
– Notification of acceptance: after completion of the review process
– The conference program will be distributed electronically three days prior to the event
